Just finished a short last month the for City of Perth. Its tells the story of a street kid and an office woman who meet in a park, and over a week form an unusual friendship. We spent a couple of months preparing and workshopping the script (which is totally non-dialogue) doing improvs and rehearsals. It was a Mike Leigh process, meaning we both found a real-life person in the community who inspired our characters. I worked with the Salvos running the soup kitchen and met people in the community who had been through the experience of being homeless. The film turned out to be a really fascinating look at the idea of charity. It was filmed in the Supreme Court Gardens in Perth, and will be screened in March 2010.
